# How to choose a wine cellar builder

Check the enclosure, cooling design, local trades and service plan before you sign.

A finished cellar can look good and still have a poor enclosure. Choose a team that can explain how the room will keep heat and moisture out. Ask who carries responsibility for the whole system.

## Send the same brief

Share a measured room plan, photos of adjacent rooms and your target collection size. Show where the condenser, ducts and drain could go. State whether the space is for long-term storage, serving or display. These uses can lead to different designs.

Rosehill describes a process with concept drawings, quotation, site measurement and production drawings. Use those stages as a comparison framework. Do not assume every builder includes them.

## Check similar work

Ask for completed projects with similar glazing, climate and access limits. With the client's consent, speak to someone who has used the cellar through hot and cold weather. Ask about noise, moisture, callouts and how the builder handled a fault. A showroom visit shows finishes. It does not prove performance in your house.

Request insurance evidence and the legal name on the contract. Check local trade registrations where required. Confirm who performs refrigerant, electrical and structural work. Ask each manufacturer directly if an installer claims dealer status.

## Review the responsibility gaps

WhisperKOOL's construction guide covers ventilation, framing, vapour control, insulation, doors and finishes. Ask the builder to mark each item as included, excluded or supplied by another trade. Put each excluded item under a named party.

Reject a proposal that sizes cooling only from bottle capacity. Ask for the design assumptions, service access and commissioning method. Have your architect review details where the cellar meets the house. Release fabrication only after the site measurements and drawings are approved.
